66 years ago, our founder, Charles J. “Chuck” August, opened a franchise auto repair shop in Rochester, New York. After a few years in business, Chuck dreamed of expanding the services his shop offered. So, he made the big decision to break away from the franchise and launch a new company. In 1966, Monro Muffler Brake officially began.
Over the years, our business has grown to include over 1,300 auto repair shops and tire dealers from coast to coast. Now known as Monro, we power 16 different tire and auto service brands, supporting each company’s regional strength and community connections.
Today, Monro is driven towards working with companies that promote communities, economies, and workforces across our country. We are committed to partnering with those that focus on durability, quality, and safety. Keep scrolling to learn more about our revered partners and how they’ve been helping Americans drive their dreams for years.

Yokohama is proud to employ 1,200 Americans at two state-of-the-art manufacturing plants in Virginia and Mississippi, and a research & development center in North Carolina. Together, they produce millions of tires annually for both consumer and commercial divisions. In fact, the millionth tire rolled off the production line in the Salem, VA plant on March 23, 2023. We think that’s exciting, but just as impressive is Yokohama’s Forever Forest initiative. So far, 30,000 trees have been planted on facility grounds in the US!
